Banff's Special Events

  1. Exploring the Art and Geology of Banff

    July 22, 2021, 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM @ Whyte Museum

    Guests will be guided on an easy walk on paved pathways from the Whyte Museum to Bow Falls and back. The walk will include one flight of wooden stairs (with a hand railing) to be descended and climbed. A relaxed pace will be enjoyed with frequent stops for conversations about Canadian art, Canadian art history, and geology. Including a discussion on the fascinating story of the Great Extinction between the Paleozoic and Mesozoic periods. Leaping forward to more recent history, guests will learn about artists such as Walter J Phillips, Margaret Shelton, Peter and Catharine Whyte, William Brymner and F.M. Bell-Smith and their impact on the art history of Canada. Walks run every Thursday between July 8 and September 30, at 9am or 1pm. For more information and to purchase tickets please visit

  1. National Drowning Prevention Week

    July 18, 2021 - July 24, 2021

    The Lifesaving Society designates the third week in July as National Drowning Prevention Week to focus community and media attention on the drowning problem and drowning prevention. The third week in July has traditionally been the week that sees the most drownings throughout the year. Water Safety and Drowning Prevention messaging from the Lifesaving Society will be posted on our website at, Facebook page and on our Instagram page. Login everyday to learn more.   2. Drop-in Rise & Shine

    July 22, 2021, 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM

    Outdoor summer sports and activities based out of the Rec Grounds Cabin. We have several hours a day for practicing your favourite sports and going out exploring, all summer long. For all genders and abilities. For Grades 5-8. This program is generously funded by the Wim and Nancy Pauw Foundation

  3. Park & Play

    July 22, 2021, 9:30 AM - 11:30 AM @ Central Park Gazebo

    An outdoor, drop-in program for caregivers with young children aged 0-5. Children can enjoy the toys and supplies during open ended play, while caregivers connect with each other and Family Resource Network staff. In the case of inclement weather, programming will move into the Family Connections Play Space upstairs at the Catharine Robb Whyte Building (101 Bear Street).

  4. Drop-in Summer Get Out

    For Grades 7-10. Maximize your time outdoors this summer with lots happening throughout July and August. Meet at the Cabin at Rec Grounds. Mondays – Thursdays, July 5 – August 27, 1-4 p.m. These programs are generously funded by the Wim & Nancy Pauw Foundation.
