Zero Construction, Renovation, and Demolition Waste Compliance Report

  1. Town of Banff Zero Construction, Renovation, and Demolition Waste Program

    The Town of Banff strives to be a model environmental community, where everything we do is guided by a goal to protect this special place. Our community goal is to send zero waste to landfill by 2050. Waste generated by the construction, renovation, and demolition (CRD) sector makes up a significant volume of waste that could be recycled or reused, instead of being sent to landfill.  

     All projects that require a building permit in Banff must adhere to strict waste management requirements, following zero waste principles. All recoverable materials must be separated for reuse or recycling. More information & how-to resources are available at https://banff.ca/ConstructionWaste 

     You are required to pay a performance bond to demonstrate your commitment to zero waste. The bond will be calculated based on the construction dollar value of your project OR size of the project metres squared. You must reuse or recycle a minimum of 70% of materials generated by your project in order to receive your full deposit back. If you reuse or recycle less than 70% of materials, your refund will be calculated proportionately based on level of compliance.

    Complete this section to calculate your diversion rate, using your scale tickets/and or receipts from the facility where your materials were reused or recycled. Your haulers or the facility where materials were taken may be able to help you. You must attach scale tickets or receipts to provide evidence of reuse and recycling.  If you can demonstrate that materials were reused, you may multiply the total tonnage by 5 which will increase your recycling rate performance.
