Kelly Gibson selected as new town manager
Long-time Town of Banff employee Kelly Gibson has been named Banff’s newest town manager. After a months-long, nationwide candidate search, council selected Gibson for the town’s top position.
“Kelly has the passion, experience and skills to lead Banff in a positive direction into the future,” Mayor Karen Sorensen said. “We have every confidence in his abilities to do the very best for this community in the coming years. Succession planning is very important in this organization and it’s always great when we can promote such a strong candidate from within.”
Gibson has worked for the Town of Banff for 18 years, first as a senior accountant and then he was promoted to director of corporate services where he has worked for the past eight years. Prior to that, he was manager of finance for the City of Portage la Prairie in Manitoba.
Gibson has spent his career in public service and has a strong base in finance and financial planning, having been instrumental in the development of Banff’s budget over the years. Originally from Manitoba, Gibson moved to Banff in 2001 to work for the municipality, and enjoy the mountain lifestyle. An avid skier and hiker, you’ll also find Gibson on the squash courts after work.
“I’m thrilled for this opportunity and I look forward to working with all my colleagues in this new role,” Gibson said. “I’m humbled by the confidence shown to me by council and I’m ready to work hard in this new position for our community and all the residents of Banff.”
The official start date for the new town manager is January 5, 2020.
