Zero Waste Trail

Single-Use Item Reduction Bylaw Workshop

As part of our community’s efforts to reduce waste going to landfill, the Town and local organizations are leading an initiative to reduce single-use items in Banff.

One of the tools to advance this initiative involves a Single-Use Item Reduction Bylaw that would require all businesses to provide reusables for on-site dining, accept customer cups and containers, charge a minimum fee on bags, and only giving accessory items like forks or straws when customers request them. The proposed bylaw would complement support measures and campaigns in the community.

Banff Town Council will discuss a draft bylaw at their February 13 meeting.

The Town of Banff is holding a workshop with the Business Environmental Leadership Working Group and representatives from interested businesses to discuss the proposed bylaw, its implementation timeline, and factors that would make this initiative successful:

Date: Tuesday, January 31
Time: 3 to 5 p.m.
Location: Banff Town Hall
Registration is required at banff.ca/SingleUseItems

Seating is limited. Only one representative per business is requested. Attendees will review the proposed bylaw, ask questions and provide feedback for consideration in recommendation to Banff Town Council and for planning support activities throughout 2023. More information on the bylaw and initiative can be found at  banff.ca/SingleUseItems
