Central zone pavers near completion, road base expands
The Bear Street Reconstruction project continues next week with landscaping, concrete work for manhole and bollard supports, paver stone installation, road base and grade shaping.
In the north portion of Bear Street, road base work will be completed in front of The Saltlik, Bear Street Mall, Townhouse Apartments, Home Hardware, B-Towne, Backtrax, Rocky Mountain Flannel Co. and the Wolf & Bear Mall (Lux Theatre, JK Bakery entrance).
This will involve scarification (removal of the top road layer), testing, compaction and grading of the sidewalk areas. Access to the front doors of these properties will be closed much of the week. Installation of paver blocks in front of these properties will commence in subsequent weeks.
In the south portion of the street, paver blocks will be installed in front of Gestion Melian, House of Angelica, the Brewster Mountain Lodge, and the Dorbert Building (Soul Ski and Bike and Spirit Leaf), as well as centrally, in front of CMH, and the Acadia Lodge residence.
Pavers will also be installed to complete the path from the alley, along the north side of the surface parking lot.
Road base work will continue the week of June 7 with the removal of the temporary asphalt at the Wolf Street and Bear Street intersection, followed by road base grading and preparation.
The week of June 7 will see installation of paver stones in front of the Dorbert Building and Bear Street Mall.
The Wolf Street and Caribou Street intersections will remain closed to vehicular traffic until the end of the project in July.
Please see dates for closures in the Weekly Access Closures Schedule for May 30 to June 8, below.
