Construction work to finalize planters, prepare roadbed
Work will continue this weekend with some sidewalk compaction in the central areas to prepare for work on Monday. The crew will use a manual plate tamper or roller, but not the heavy excavator plate compactor. This activity on Saturday and Sunday will not have an impact on the entrances to businesses or services.
The reconstruction project continues next week with utility installation and landscaping in the planters. This work includes relocating electrical and irrigation lines to adapt to the revised placement of trees, which was required as part of the density reduction work. The landscaping will continue with loading of topsoil and tree planting.

As part of the renewal of the drainage system on Bear Street, work next week includes connecting downspouts from properties into the storm water system, and placement of manholes. Concrete pads will be installed for pay machines for the visitor-pay parking system.
With work continuing in the surface parking lot area, the pedestrian path from alley to Bear Street on the south side of the parking lot will remain closed.
Road base work will be completed next week in front of the Brewster Mountain Lodge, the Olympic Building, the Dorbert Building, the Bison Courtyard and the Willock & Sax Gallery. This will involve scarification (removal of the top layer), testing, compaction and grading of the sidewalk areas.
The work will include temporary/intermittent closures of sidewalks in front of those properties throughout the week. Work will be scheduled as best as possible to minimize impact.
