Learn about upcoming affordable housing developments at a community wide open house Thursday, February 4, hosted by the Town of Banff at the Scout Hall.
Parks Canada recently released 14 lots within town boundaries to the Banff Housing Corporation – a wholly owned subsidiary of the Town of Banff – for the development of multi-unit, affordable rental housing.
Council has since passed first reading of a borrowing bylaw to finance the purchase of lands and conduct preliminary civil engineering work. Subsequent readings are scheduled to take place in February.
Council has named housing one of the community’s top priorities; the Town has committed to building 100 units during the current term. “Housing is a shared responsibility and a community wide issue,” said Mayor Karen Sorensen. “Together, citizens and the Town will ensure new housing developments meet the needs of the community and respect the evolving character of every neighbourhood.”
The open house, she added, will be an opportunity for residents to learn where the lots are, what “affordable” means, and pertinent Land Use Bylaw regulations, plus an estimated project timeline for development. Town staff will be on hand to answer questions.
The affordable housing open house will be held on Thursday, February 4 from 3:30 to 7 p.m. at the Scout Hall, 226 Lynx Street. Everyone is welcome.
