Banff, AB – The 2014 municipal census begins today, and census takers will be out in full force in Banff neighbourhoods leaving door hangers at every home and suite.
The door hangers contain a unique PIN number so that residents can complete the census confidentially online at banff.ca/census.
“An accurate count means more resources for the programs we all rely on,” said Mayor Karen Sorensen. “ I urge everyone to complete the census. The online option makes it easy, convenient and quick.”
The Town of Banff is required to conduct a census every three years by the provincial government, to determine official population count and other demographic information. A municipality’s population is used by the province to determine funding and grant levels to that community. The Town also uses the data to plan programs and services.
All permanent, seasonal and temporary residents should be counted at each household. Census responses are completely confidential. No person, employer, landlord or agency, including the Town of Banff, can identify individuals or obtain personal information from a census response.
Residents without Internet access at home can visit town hall at 110 Bear Street to complete the census confidentially using their PIN. Or they can provide the information to census takers when they knock on the door or by telephone.
The Town of Banff census takers will carry Town-issued identification and all residents are advised to ask to see it. Never provide any door or telephone caller with social insurance numbers, bank or credit information. Census takers will not contact residents by email.
