BANFF, AB - Banff is hosting the send-off party for Canada’s Olympians headed to Sochi for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games.
The Canadian Olympic Committee announced the host cities for the Celebration of Excellence 2014 today in Calgary, with Mayor Karen Sorensen in attendance.
“I am excited to announce that next year’s Celebration of Excellence is coming to beautiful Alberta,” said Marcel Aubut, President, Canadian Olympic Committee. “Our goal in Sochi is to contend for the top spot in total medals won, and I know our athletes will be giving the residents of Alberta and Canadians across our great country so much to cheer about.”
The Canadian Olympic Team Block Party will happen Saturday, January 11, 2014 on Banff Avenue, hosted by CBC’s George Stroumboulopoulos, with performances from the top bands, The Sheepdogs and The Arkells.
““Banff could not be more proud to host the block party for the Canadian Olympic Team, Mayor Sorensen said. “We invite all Canadians to join us on Banff Avenue to ensure our athletes receive a resounding send-off heard across Alberta and the country, and all the way to Sochi.”
More details on the block party, including time and tickets, will be available shortly.
