The Town of Banff has installed a temporary Off-Leash Dog Park near the permanent dog park at the Rec Grounds.
The permanent dog park was closed for the annual dry-out period in the spring, but it was decided to extend this closure due to a proliferation of foxtail weed. Embedded foxtail seeds can lead to serious infection for your dog. The safety of all residents, including pets, is a priority.
The temporary dog park is important to offer off-leash exercise for the health and well-being of dogs and their owners. The objective is to reopen the permanent Off-Leash Dog Park later this summer.
Closing the dog park will allow for sod rehabilitation to naturally subdue the spread of foxtail. Keeping the dog park closed for a period of time will also allow for safe, targeted application of herbicide. We understand the frustration with this closure and we are working diligently towards longer-term solutions.
