Update: The Flood Warning for the Bow River in Banff issued by Alberta Environment early this morning has been downgraded to a Flood Watch. This reflects lower than forecast rainfall for the region. Town of Banff Emergency personnel have halted deployment of temporary dams around the lowest elevation in Banff at Birch Avenue and the Recreation Grounds.
The Town will continue to monitor the river levels and flow rates.
Avoid Bow River banks as they can become slippery and unstable. Avoid any closed sections of trails and keep pets and children away from the river which continues to have high river flow and high turbidity which can conceal dangerous debris. Continue to watch for updates and visit banff.ca/Emergency for ways to be prepared for emergencies.
