Most items can be dropped off at recycling and garbage bins around town or at the Town of Banff Transfer Site at 160 Hawk Avenue. The Transfer Site is open seven days a week, except public holidays, from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Please note that no loads will be accepted after 3:15 p.m.

Drop-offs are free for residents, excluding construction and renovation waste. Fees will apply for non-residential and out-of-town drop-offs. See the materials accepted at the Town of Banff Transfer Site and associated fees (PDF).

Car BatteriesDrop off at the town's Transfer Site, 160 Hawk Avenue
Cardboard and PaperRecycle newsprint, office paper, magazines and cardboard in one of the many Mixed Paper bins around town.
Christmas TreesBetween December 26 and January 7, you can drop off your Christmas trees at the Beaver Street recycling depot (next to the Fire Hall). After January 7, you can drop trees off at the town's Transfer Site, 160 Hawk Avenue All decorations, including tinsel, must be removed from the trees before disposal.
ClothesA few non-profit organizations around town accept clean, gently used items. Clothing bins are located in the Operations Compound and recycling depot on Beaver Street. Otherwise, clothing can be recycled into rags or thrown away.
ComputersDrop off at the town's Transfer Site, 160 Hawk Avenue or bring to the Annual Hazardous Waste and Electronics Round-Up each Spring.
Drink ContainersMost drink containers can be recycled at the Banff Bottle Depot for a refund. Otherwise recycle them in the appropriate Mixed Containers or Glass bins around town.
ElectronicsDrop off at the town's Transfer Site, 160 Hawk Avenue or bring to the Annual Hazardous Waste and Electronics Round-Up each Spring.
Food Waste The Town collects and composts both raw and cooked food waste. You can recycle it in one of five Food bins around town. Do not put plastic bags, large bones, elastics, twist ties, stickers, plastic labels, fabrics or pet waste in the food bins.
GlassClean glass jars and bottles can be recycled in the Glass bins around town.
Grass or Tree ClippingsDrop off at the town's Transfer Site, 160 Hawk Avenue
Light Bulbs, Compact Fluorescents or Fluorescent TubesDrop off at the town's Transfer Site, 160 Hawk Avenue
Metal Food ContainersClean fruit cups, ribbed food cans, pie plates and aerosol cans can be recycled in the Mixed Containers bins around town. Please make sure sharp edges are not exposed.
Motor Oil and AntifreezeDrop off at the town's Transfer Site, 160 Hawk Avenue
Paint, Solvents or Other Hazardous LiquidsDrop off at the town's Transfer Site, 160 Hawk Avenue or bring to the Annual Hazardous Waste and Electronics Round-Up each Spring.
Plastic ContainersPlastic containers with a mobius loop numbered 1 – 7 can be recycled in the mixed containers bins around town.
Plastic Grocery BagsBanff grocery stores.
PumpkinsRemove candle, candle holder, decorations and plastic bags, and drop off in the special pumpkin bin at the Recycling Centre on Beaver St. or in neighbourhood Food bins.
Rechargeable BatteriesDrop off at the town's Transfer Site, 160 Hawk Avenue or Banff Town Hall.
Renovation or Construction WasteDrop off at the Francis Cooke Landfill or the town's Transfer Site at 160 Hawk Avenue See the Transfer Site Fees Schedule (PDF)
Small Camp Stove Propane CylindersDrop off at the town's Transfer Site, 160 Hawk Avenue
Styrofoam/Polystyrene
Garbage bin. The Town does not have a facility for recycling Styrofoam.
TelevisionsDrop off at the town's Transfer Site, 160 Hawk Avenue or bring to the Annual Hazardous Waste and Electronics Round-Up each Spring.
TiresCan be dropped off at the town's Transfer Site, 160 Hawk Avenue Rims must be removed and can be left in the metal recycling area.
Unwanted Residential ItemsLeaving unwanted items next to the bins is illegal and unnecessary. The Town offers residents free curbside pick-up of unwanted items. Just call 403.762.1240 to arrange for a pick-up.
Yard and Garden WasteIt is illegal to leave any items beside any bin. Drop off your yard and garden waste loose at the town's Transfer Site, 160 Hawk Avenue or bag/bundle it up and call 403.762.1240 to arrange for a free, curbside pickup.
