Voters

Election Day is Monday, October 16, 2017, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Banff Town Hall Council Chamber, 110 Bear Street.

Electors will have the opportunity to vote for:
  • The Mayor of Banff (1)
  • Banff Town Councillors (6)    
  • Question on the Ballot
  • School Board Trustees 


Voter Eligibility
You are eligible to vote in the 2017 Municipal Election if you meet ALL of the following criteria:
  • Are at least 18 years of age on or before Election Day
  • Are a Canadian citizen
  • Have resided in Alberta for at least six consecutive months immediately preceding Election Day
  • Live in Banff on Election Day
  • Have not already voted in the election, and
  • You provide the required voter identification

Voter Identification Required
Voter identification is required by all voters. You will need to produce identification confirming your name and place of residence. Identification that includes either a Banff residential address or a Banff post office box number will be accepted.  Photo identification is not a requirement.

Make a Plan  to Vote!
Don't have documents in your own name, nothing with a Banff address or unsure if you have the required identification?

Call the Returning Officer at 403.762.1209 in advance for help.  There are lots of free options. Don't wait until Election Day. 

Vote in Advance

Any eligible voter may vote at one of the Advance Voting Polls. You do not need a reason to vote in advance.

The Advance Polls are currently scheduled to be held in Banff Town Hall, Council Chamber, 110 Bear Street, Banff:

Saturday, October 7, 2017   10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Friday, October 13, 2017   10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Note: these dates and times may be subject to change and will be advertised at least one week before the dates set for the Advance Vote.  


NEW!: Special (Mail-In) Ballots


Eligible voters may request a Special Ballot, if they are unable to vote at an advance vote or at the voting station on election day because they are:
 
  • physically incapacitated;
  • absent from Banff, or
  • a returning officer, deputy returning officer, candidate, official agent, or scrutineer who may be located on election day at a voting station other than that for the elector's place of residence.

  • Telephone the returning officer at 403-762-1209 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

    Electors voting by special ballot are responsible for ensuring their voted ballot arrives in the election office by 8 p.m. on Monday, October 16, 2017. The full requirements for this process are set out in the special ballot package. 
        
                     
    Incapacitated Elector At-Home Voting
    If you are physically unable to leave your home to vote, you may vote at your residence.

    If you wish to use this service, contact the Returning Officer at 403.762.1209 no later than 4:30 p.m. on October 10, 2017.

    The Returning Officer will require the following information:
    • name of voter;
    • physical address of the residence;
    • telephone number; and 
    • the reason the voter cannot attend the voting station.

    The Returning Officer will advise on the specific time the election officials will visit your home to take your vote. When the election official visits your home, you will be required to provide identification and complete a voting register that will be provided. 
     

    Institutional Voting
    Any elector eligible to vote in Banff who is residing in the Mineral Springs Hospital on Election Day may vote at the hospital on Monday, October 16, 2017. This service is only available for the residents of the hospital. Voting times will be provided once it has been established.
