Cave Avenue Redevelopment
Construction Update – Spring 2015
We intend to begin the weekly construction update the first week of May and run until the completion of construction.

We have been waiting for the sub terrain to thaw and expect construction to resume the second week of May, with burial of overhead utilities and landscaping on the north side. We anticipate this will take approximately six weeks to complete.

Other tasks:
  • Installing curb & gutter on the south side
  • Paving parking bays and driveways repair
  • Creating new parking stalls along Birch Avenue (where the contractor’s trailer/office was located)
  • Landscaping the south side
  • Installing new street lights
  • Second lift of asphalt with road marking

All dates and task duration are weather dependent.

Project History
The reconstruction of Cave Avenue has been discussed since the 1995 Cave/Spray/Kootenay Area Redevelopment Plan. After a number of public consultations in 2008-2009 and again in 2012-2013, a design was developed and approved by Council in 2013. The enhancements include:
  • Road widening and resurfacing for two lanes of traffic
  • Road realignment
  • Curb and gutter
  • Moving streetlights to the north side of street, and updating them to meet new street light policy and standards
  • Upgrade of underground utility pipes
  • Burial of overhead utilities
  • Upgrade of gas pipes
  • Sidewalk

Approved Budget
  • $6,764,153 million
