Neighbourhood Connections
Neighbourhood Connections.JPGThis pilot initiative will help residents build stronger ties to their neighbours and neighbourhoods by getting to know each other better. Based on similar programs in Edmonton, Red Deer & Okotoks, Neighbourhood Connectors will be door knocking in six neighbourhoods in the summer of 2017 to help people meet, share ideas and find common interests – from gardening to potlucks to games in the street.

Why be Neighbourly?
Social neighbourhoods are safer, healthier, and more fun. Research tells us that when we know our neighbours, it:
  • Boosts our physical & mental wellness
  • Helps us feel safe when we watch out for one another
  • Reduces isolation & increases belonging
  • Saves time & money by helping out & sharing resources
  • Support the growth of kids & youth

How can I be involved?

Thank you to Abundant Communities Edmonton, Red Deer FCSS & Town of Okotoks for resources, graphics and sharing experiences.

Initiative is based on the principles of Asset Based Community Driven Development (ABCD) bottom-up way of working with communities that focuses on community strengths, capacities and assets, similar to the idea of the “half full glass” that gives us something to work on.

During the Town of Banff’s Community Social Assessment (PDF) in 2013, residents identified community connections as a priority.
