Work with your neighbours - Find out who shares your waste and recycling bins and discuss a plan to manage your waste.
Recycle & Divert - Be sure you and your staff understand Banff’s commercial waste and recycling categories. The more you are able to divert, the more you'll save.
Choose the correct containers to meet your needs - Each pick-up costs your business money. The more efficiently you use your containers, the fewer pick-ups you'll need.
Plan your waste enclosure to allow for enough space for your needs - Plan to have suitable storage space for each category of waste. If you are building or renovating, consider your storage space.
Produce a low volume of waste or recyclables (cardboard)? - If you produce a low volume of any or all waste streams, it is not mandatory to subscribe for the minimum, once-a-week service. Several options available:
Build a waste enclosure - The Land Use Bylaw defines a “Approved Enclosure” as a type of enclosure for the storage of containers between collection times that prevents access to waste or recyclable waste by domestic animals and wildlife which has been approved by the Development Office. If you want to alter your enclosure space to fit more bins, make an appointment with the planning department to review your options for building an appropriate enclosure.
You are also encouraged to talk to a neighbouring property and see if you can place your waste in their bin and share the cost of having the bin emptied.
