Here is a list of common waste items and how to dispose of them legally and safely. Call the Operations Department with any questions at 403.762.1240.

Most items can be dropped off at recycling and garbage bins around town or at the Town of Banff Transfer Site at 160 Hawk Avenue. The Transfer Site is open 7 days a week from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Please note that no loads will be accepted after 3:15 p.m.

Drop-offs are free for residents, excluding construction and renovation waste. Fees will apply for non-residential and out-of-town drop-offs. Fee schedule (PDF)
  
Yard and Garden Waste It is illegal to leave any items beside any bin. Drop off your yard and garden waste loose at the town's Transfer Site, 160 Hawk Ave. or bag/bundle it up and call 403.762.1240 to arrange for a free, curbside pickup. 
Bear Spray - Expired Bring to the Annual Hazardous Waste & Electronics Round-Up each Spring.
Car Batteries Drop off at the town's Transfer Site, 160 Hawk Ave.
Cardboard and Paper Recycle newsprint, office paper, magazines and cardboard in one of the many Mixed Paper bins around town.
Christmas Trees Drop off at the town's Transfer Site, 160 Hawk Ave.
Clothes A few non-profit organizations around town accept clean, gently used items. Clothing bins are located in the Operations Compound and recycling depot on Beaver Street. Otherwise, clothing can be recycled into rags or thrown away.
Computers Drop off at the town's Transfer Site, 160 Hawk Ave. or bring to the Annual Hazardous Waste & Electronics Round-Up each Spring.
Drink Containers  Most drink containers can be recycled at the Banff Bottle Depot for a refund. Otherwise recycle them in the appropriate Mixed Containers or Glass bins around town.
Electronics Drop off at the town's Transfer Site, 160 Hawk Ave. or bring to the Annual Hazardous Waste & Electronics Round-Up each Spring.
Food Waste The Town collects and composts both raw and cooked food waste. You can recycle it in one of five Food bins around town. Do not put plastic bags, large bones, elastics, twist ties, stickers, plastic labels, fabrics or pet waste in the food bins.
Glass Clean glass jars and bottles can be recycled in the Glass bins around town.
Grass or Tree Clippings Drop off at the town's Transfer Site, 160 Hawk Ave.
Light Bulbs, Compact Fluorescents or Fluorescent Tubes Drop off at the town's Transfer Site, 160 Hawk Ave.
Metal Food Containers Clean fruit cups, ribbed food cans, pie plates and aerosol cans can be recycled in the Mixed Containers bins around town. Please make sure sharp edges are not exposed.
Motor Oil and Antifreeze Drop off at the town's Transfer Site, 160 Hawk Ave.
Paint, Solvents or Other Hazardous Liquids Drop off at the town's Transfer Site, 160 Hawk Ave. or bring to the Annual Hazardous Waste & Electronics Round-Up each Spring.
Plastic Containers Plastic containers with a mobius loop numbered 1 – 7 can be recycled in the mixed containers bins around town.
Plastic Grocery Bags Banff grocery stores.
Pumpkins Remove candle, candle holder, decorations and plastic bags, and drop off in the special pumpkin bin at the Recycling Centre on Beaver St. or in neighbourhood Food bins.
Rechargeable Batteries Drop off at the town's Transfer Site, 160 Hawk Ave. or Banff Town Hall.
Renovation or Construction Waste Drop off at the Francis Cooke Landfill or the town's Transfer Site, 160 Hawk Ave. Fees schedule (PDF)
Small Camp Stove Propane Cylinders Drop off at the town's Transfer Site, 160 Hawk Ave.
Televisions Drop off at the town's Transfer Site, 160 Hawk Ave. or bring to the Annual Hazardous Waste & Electronics Round-Up each Spring.
Tires Can be dropped off at the town's Transfer Site, 160 Hawk Ave. Rims must be removed and can be left in the metal recycling area.
Unwanted Residential Items Leaving unwanted items next to the bins is illegal and unnecessary. The Town offers residents free curbside pick-up of unwanted items. Just call 403.762.1240 to arrange for a pick-up.
