Mixed Containers
Mixed ContainersMost kinds of plastic containers, metal food cans, milk jugs and drink containers can be recycled in the mixed containers bin, as listed below.

  • Plastic bottles, plastic food jars, plastic containers, plastic tubs and milk jugs with a Mobius Loop and number 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7
  • Margarine, ice cream, yogurt containers, ketchup, shampoo bottles, etc.

To prepare: Remove lids and rinse all containers.

 Metal food cans
  • Fruit cups, ribbed food cans, aerosol cans and other small pieces of metal such as pie plates

To prepare: You don't have to worry about removing labels, but cans should be clean before they're recycled.

    Drink Cans & Beverage
    • Beer and soda cans
    • Soy and rice milk containers
    • Juice boxes

    To prepare: Remove all straws, caps and lids, rinse and flatten. Leave tabs on cans. Plastic lids can go in plastic recycling. 

    Do not place the following in mixed container bins:
    • Plastic bags (they can be dropped off at grocery stores)
    • Non-beverage Tetra Paks (e.g., soup)
    • Plastic containers without a Mobius Loop
    • Toxic product containers
    • Polystyrene/Styrofoam 
    • Plastic film, wrap, or cellophane packaging
