2018 Community Assessment
Conversation MetreTalking with the Community
Community Assessments help us understand our town’s successes, challenges, and what we need to do to make life in Banff a little bit better.

We’re asking all residents to participate, get together and talk about what makes life in Banff great, what’s not so great, and what we as a community can do better.

Using a Conversation Kit, you can share your stories, ideas and thoughts. The information gathered will help inspire future decisions and planning within the Town of Banff and other community organizations.

Get a group of five to eight people together and we’ll give you $30 for snacks while you work through the questions in the kit. Everyone who takes part can also enter for a chance to win one of five Town of Banff recreation program drop-in passes.

This is about improving our community. We’re all locals, and we all want the best for Banff. There are no wrong answers – be honest, and help shape the future.

Pick up a Conversation Kit at the Community Services desk at Town Hall, or download a copy.

Deadline to complete Conversation Kits is May 31, 2018.

Community Conversation Sessions
Community Conversation Sessions have been scheduled for:
  • Thursday, June 7, 6:30-8 p.m. at Town Hall Council Chambers, 110 Bear Street
  • Tuesday, June 12, 1-2:30 p.m. at 101 Bear Street, Pioneer Room

Please email  if you can attend one of these sessions. Snacks will be provided. Drop-ins also welcome.

Successes from the last Assessment
During the 2013 Community Assessment, the high cost of living, a feeling of not being connected to the community, and simply not knowing where to go to get everyday information were some of the things we learned. So, we created a number of new things to address these concerns. They include:
  • Awareness of community resources & programs – 211 free phone line to get connected to local resources 24 hours/ day 7 days/ week; increased immigrant and community support services; new communication strategy resulted in 10,000 client interactions to community services 
  • Affordability – Banff Access Program with free and discounted transit, recreation and programs; Creation of Bow Valley Affordability Guide; housing strategy and build projects, public transit between Banff and Canmore; Re Use It Centre; Try It recreation programs; new food programs 
  • Community Connections – Community Table lunch where locals meet, welcoming and multicultural events; SHINE celebrating community members; Community Greenhouses; Community Connections program to welcome and connect newcomers
