Parks Canada is hosting their annual planning forum over two days: Tuesday, February 19 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Wednesday, February 20 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Both sessions are being held at the Banff Park Lodge.

This two-day introduction teaches you to safely travel through avalanche terrain. The first day consists of lectures on the characteristics of avalanches, the mountain snowpack, avalanche terrain and backcountry travel, as well as using avalanche transceivers. The second day is spent in the field (in the Bow Summit area) to cover how weather, snowpack and terrain interact to create avalanches and how to avoid them. This course is based on the standards set by the Canadian Avalanche Centre and a certificate of completion is awarded to those who attend. Register online at banff.ca/register or call 403.762.1251.

The Basement is a new youth drop-in centre below the Banff Canmore Community Foundation. It’s a space where youth can hang out, play games, do homework, work on art projects, create music, or just socialize. There are board games, foosball, shuffleboard, instruments, books, WiFi and a popcorn machine. There will be weekly activities – rock climbing, skateboarding, bowling and more. Healthy snacks available daily. This program is generously supported by the Pauw Foundation. For Grades 7-10.

The Sally Borden Building at the Banff Centre is home to a 25-metre pool, hot tub, wading pool and steam room. Lifejackets are provided at no charge.
