  3. SnowDays Cartboard Sled Derby

    January 20, 7:00 PM - 10:00 PM @ Mt. Norquay

    Build a sled using the following items ONLY: tape, string, garbage bags, glue, cardboard. Race it down the mountain for a chance to win great prizes. Prizes will be awarded for fastest sled, best crash, best overall sled, longest run, best costume, and people choice. Entry fee is $10 per competitor paid at the door. Registration starts at 6 p.m. in the North American lodge. All sleds must be registered by 7 p.m. to compete. Derby starts at 7:30 p.m. in the Tube Park. All participants are required to wear helmets. Waivers can be filled out day of event, for more information contact 403.762.4421.

  4. Lake Louise to Banff Loppet & Relay

    January 22, All Day

    The Lake Louise to Banff Loppet & Relay is an annual cross-country ski race between the two communities. The race consists of six legs, beginning in front of the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise and ending on the Bow River in front of the Central Park gazebo in Banff. Registration for the 2017 Lake Louise to Banff Loppet & Relay will open at 8 a.m. on Saturday December 3. Race Day is scheduled for Sunday, January 22 with a backup date of Sunday, January 29.

    This Mountain Adventure Program is available to young adults (18 - 30 years), living and working in the Bow Valley. Take your safety into your own hands. This course is essential for anyone venturing into the backcountry. Avalanches claim the lives of many every year. Be prepared and learn the basics of avalanche safety. Skills covered included using avalanche beacon and transceivers, assessing snow packs, route finding, and more. Day one will be classroom, day 2 in the field. Certificate will be issued at the end of the course. Cost includes: 2 days of instruction, books, use of safety and snow study equipment, and transportation to field location. An AST 1 certificate will be issued on successful completion.* You will need to bring adequate clothing and equipment for a backcountry ski tour (or snowshoes).

    The purpose of proposed Bylaw 380 is to amend the Town of Banff Land Use Bylaw in order to incorporate the provisions of Council Policy C122 – Residential Apartment Housing /Off-street Parking and Alternative Transportation Standards into the bylaw. The amendments would allow for the minimum off-street requirements for new apartment housing developments to be varied under certain, site-specific, circumstances. The amendments provide the site specific criteria that would allow for a reduction in the amount of required off-street parking for apartment housing and identifies certain thresholds for when parking is required.
