Banff's Special Events

  1. Skateboard Park Redevelopment Open House and Workshop

    February 10, 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM @ Banff Town Hall - Council Chambers

    The Town of Banff has approved funding for the construction of a new concrete skateboard park at the Banff Recreation Grounds. The purpose of this open house/workshop is to give users an overview of the project, including location, budget and design process; gather feedback on park design through an informal workshop facilitated by local skaters; recruit additional steering committee members to support the project team with design, fundraising etc. and create a contact list to keep skateboarders informed on progress. Everyone welcome.

  2. Family Day at The Fenlands

    Celebrate Family Day at The Fenlands. Free skating, curling and other activities for kids from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, February 15. There will also be free public swimming for families between 1-8 pm at the Sally Borden Recreation Centre and families can book a 45 minute belay session at the climbing gym as well. To register, contact the Recreation Desk at 403.762.6450 – they are called Family Day Climbing Sessions.

  1. Intro to Ice Climbing

    This Mountain Adventure Program is available to young adults (18 - 30 years), living and working in the Bow Valley. Learn the basics of the sport, and get introduced to a whole new world of winter adventure! In a small group you will learn from some of the best climbers/ACMG guides in the Valley. No experience necessary. Cost includes: 1 day of instruction, use of group technical equipment, use of personal climbing equipment (helmet, harness and belay devise) and transportation to climbing site.

  4. Avalanche Skills Training (AST) Level 1

    February 22, 9:30 AM - 5:00 PM @ Meeting Room 1 at The Fenlands Banff Recreation Centre

    This Mountain Adventure Program is available to young adults (18 - 30 years), living and working in the Bow Valley. Take your safety into your own hands. This course is essential for anyone venturing into the backcountry. Avalanches claim the lives of many every year. Be prepared and learn the basics of avalanche safety. Skills covered included using avalanche beacon and transceivers, assessing snow packs, route finding, and more. Day one will be classroom, day 2 in the field. Certificate will be issued at the end of the course. Cost includes: 2 days of instruction, books, use of safety and snow study equipment, and transportation to field location. An AST 1 certificate will be issued on successful completion.* You will need to bring adequate clothing and equipment for a backcountry ski tour (or snowshoes).

    This Mountain Adventure Program is available to young adults (18 - 30 years), living and working in the Bow Valley. The Avalanche Skills Training Level 2 Course will provide an intermediate level decision-making framework that is based on the most advanced knowledge available. It is suitable for use by people with a moderate degree of training and experience. Cost includes: 4 days of instruction, books, use of shovel and probe and snow study equipment, and transportation to field location. An AST 2 certificate will be issued on successful completion. You need to have AST level 1 in order to take this course. * You will need to bring adequate clothing and equipment for a backcountry ski touring*

    The Town of Banff Finance Committee reviews financial policies, financial statements, fees and charges and the Financial Plan. Meetings are held in the Council Chamber and are open to the public. The Mayor and Town Councillors are the sole members of the Finance Committee.

    The Banff Heritage Corporation works toward the the protection, preservation, enhancement and promotion of Banff’s built heritage. The corporation meets bi-monthly on the third Thursday of every other month at 1:30 p.m in Banff Town Hall. Meetings are open to the public.

    Now until February 24, come to the Banff Public Library and explore the beautiful exhibit of work sponsored by the TREX program and the Art Gallery of Alberta. This tribute exhibition 'Path Makers' honours the memory of three Albertan First Nations artists that have significantly contributed to the fabric of this national history.

    A Latin-inspired, calorie-burning dance fitness class combining fast and slow rhythms with cardio and muscle-toning benefits. Dance to merengue, salsa, cumbia, raggaeton, hip hop and more. You don’t have to know how to dance and any fitness level can take part. Just feel the music, move your body and follow your instructor’s lead. The Fenlands Banff Recreation Centre

    Everyone welcome! This includes families, parent and tots. adults and seniors. Children under 7 years must be accompanied by an adult. No sticks, no pucks, no figure skating jumps or spins. International certified helmets are required to be worn by all skaters 12 years of age and under, and are highly recommended by all skaters. Scheduled times are subject to change without notice.
